Premier Inn Hotel, Blackburn

A new 60 bed hotel has been constructed as part of the wider Cathedral Quarter masterplan in the heart of Blackburn. As the first hotel in the centre of Blackburn, it is designed to form a neat counterpoint to the residential/cultural mix in the masterplan, enhancing the commercial offer and supporting the destination-creating role of the new town centre development.

Working closely with Premier Inn, we designed the hotel with additional commercial space that steps out at the ground floor, providing an animated street frontage to three sides. The single storey contemporary glazed facade provides a curtain to both frame and reveal the public open spaces and the East end of the Cathedral. Whilst the internal layout has been carefully planned to place the majority of bedrooms with views of the Cathedral’s and new public square.

Works by James Sanderson, Surveyor to the Fabric of Blackburn Cathedral. Project undertaken whilst at previous practice, Purcell.
